IranManiaBrazilian futsal expert comments on Iran Tuesday, March 16, 2004
In view of the high potentials and talents of the Iranian youth, Iran's futsal is ranked high. No doubt, Iran is unrivaled at the continental level; however still Iran's futsal cannot have a say at international levels yet. Recently Brazilian futsal coach,
Ricardo Menezes joined Iran's futsal team. The Following is an interview with the veteran coach who so far has cooperated with such teams as Belgium and Spain:
- How much familiar were you with Iran's futsal before coming to Iran?- Iran caught my attention first in 1994 when it ranked 4th in the Spanish world contests. However due to the overall chaos prevailing the team, Iran failed to preserve its status. Despite its talented players, Iran has never gained the status it deserves.
- In your opinion, what position Iran really deserves?- Presently given the quality of Iran's futsal, it can achieve a higher status. I hope I can help the team to achieve this objective.
- Is this your first trip to Iran?- No, this is my second visit to the country. Last October I came to instruct coaches. In fact the negotiations on my cooperation with Iran started since my first visit.
- Would you please talk about your professional record?- I started my career as a coach around 24 years ago. I began with Brazilian teams. Then I went to Europe and continued with Spanish and Belgian teams. I have also worked as body-building instructor.
- Now what is your position in Iran's futsal?- I am going to help the team as a technical advisor; I am here mainly to draw up an organized plan for the team.
- You are going to draw up plans in just a two-month period?- The Iranian Football Federation's officials believe that I may not be able to get along with the team. That's why we have singed a two-month contract. However in case the two sides are interested, the
terms of agreement can be extended.
- How far do you think we are from the professional world teams?- I think there is a great difference between Iranian and foreign coaches. Iranian coaches are not professional enough. Thus it's the coaches who have to learn the professional methods.
