Castellón shine in Dutch demolition

Thursday, 18 March 2004

Reigning UEFA Futsal Cup champions Playas de Castellón FS stated their intent to make it three titles in a row with a devastating display against their Dutch challengers.

Five goals

Isco led the way with five goals in a rout that sent Castellón straight to the top of the Group A second qualifying round tournament, being played on the outskirts of Madrid. The winners of the section will go forward to meet the top team from Group B in a two-legged final, to be played on 24 April and 1 May.

Goals galore

Nando Grana, the Italian international, set Castellón on their way with a second-minute strike but surprisingly it was not until Isco's first of the night in the eighth minute that the Spanish side scored again. It was to be 8-0 by the interval with Edesio hitting a quickfire double, Isco scoring two more and Nando Grana and Tatú completing the first-half show.

Same story

It was the same story in the second half. Isco made it nine in the 26th minute before Edesio completed his hat-trick three minutes later. Seven goals followed in the last ten minutes with Euler getting a hat-trick of his own, Tatú completing his treble, Isco scoring again and Fali getting in on the act.

Boomerang edge thrilling contest

Thursday, 18 March 2004

The Spanish champions Boomerang Interviú FS were made to work extremely hard for victory in their opening match of the Group A second qualifying round mini-tournament.

Quickfire start

The winners of the section will go through to contest the two-legged final, being played on 24 April and 1 May. Boomerang opened the scoring after just two minutes through Spanish international Javier Orol, only for Anton Tatarinov to level for the Ukrainian title-holders three minutes later. In a frenetic opening, Schumacher then restored Boomerang's advantage seconds after the restart.

Fans happy

However, InterKrAZ were in resilient mood and battled back again to level matters on 12 minutes. This time, Serhiy Ghedorniyk was on target but Marquinho soon made it 3-2 to the Spanish side, much to the delight of the fans in the Pabellón Parque Corredor at Torrejón de Ardoz on the outskirts of Madrid.

Schumacher second

Yet Tatarinov silenced the home supporters with his second of the night two minutes before the interval and the teams went into the break on level terms. Joan then eased the nerves with a strike on 23 minutes and Boomerang were given a two-goal cushion ten minutes from time courtesy of Julio. There was still time for a tense finish as Tatarinov found the net in the final minute to complete his treble but Boomerang hung on for victory.
