CONCACAF.COMMexico goes winless in two friendlies against Cuba over the weekend5.5.04 - Mexico’s Futsal team traveled to La Habana, Cuba and went winless in two friendlies against the host at the Polideportivo Kid Chocolate from 1-2 May.
The first match ended in a 2:2 draw on 1 May, while the next day, the cubanos defeated the tricolor 4:2 in the second encounter.
Azarel Barriga gave Mexico a 1:0 lead in the first game with a goal in the 11th minute, but Boris Sanamé leveled the score for Cuba a minute into the second half.
Arturo Lopez’s goal in the 24th minute once again gave the tricolor the edge (2:1), but Jose Serrano got the equalizer for the cubanos with seven minutes remaining for the 2:2 final.
In the second match, Cuba jumped out to a 1:0 advantage with a tally by Juan Carlos Portal in the fourth minute, but Mexico tied in the eighth minute via an owl goal by Serrano.
Barriga scored in the 12th minute for the tricolor, but the cubanos answered right back three minutes later with a tally by Saname for the 2:2 halftime score.
Saname and Frank Mayor closed out the scoring for Cuba in the 26th and 30th minutes, respectively, in the 4:2 win over Mexico.
Mexico are in preparations for the 2004 CONCACAF Futsal Preliminary Series against visiting El Salvador on 20 and 22 May in Pachuca, Hidalgo, while Cuba, who has advanced into the Final Round of CONCACAF Qualification, will greet Trinidad & Tobago in friendly on 20 May in La Habana.
