 USA advances to 2004 CONCACAF Futsal Final Round Qualification
The USA advanced to the 2004 CONCACAF Futsal Final Round Qualification in Costa Rica, after defeating Honduras 2:0 in the second-leg of the Preliminary North/Central Zone Series 3 at the US Cellular Arena in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Thursday evening. The stars & stripes won the overall series 7:1 on aggregate. After a scoreless first half, the USA opened the scoring (1:0) in the 25th minute of the second half with a goal by Lee Edgerton. The second tally came with a minute remaining via an own goal scored by the catrachos’ Fabio Gonzalez off a shot by the stars & stripes’ Lee Tschantret in the win.
The 2:0 final was the lowest scoring victory by the USA since defeating Italy 2:1 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on 13 January 1998.
The USA join Cuba, Guyana, Surinam, Trinidad & Tobago and the host, Costa Rica in the 2004 CONCACAF Futsal Final Round Qualification from 23-31 July.
The remaining two berths to the CONCACAF tournament will be determined with North/Central Zone Series 1 (Canada vs. Panama) and Series 2 (Mexico vs. El Salvador) conclude this weekend. North/Central Zone Series Preliminaries
The eight-team CONCACAF Final Round will qualify two nations to the 2004 FIFA Futsal World Championship, to be held in Chinese Taipei from 21 November - 5 December.
