 TRANMERE REACH NATIONAL FINALS
Tranmere Victoria have booked their place in the FA National Futsal Finals. The Vics, one of the country's well established Futsal clubs, qualified for the tournament after winning the Wirral regional league.
A crucial 3-1 victory over rivals Tavern handed Tranmere Victoria the title and a chance to secure a place in Europe.
The Wirral league organiser Bryan Jackson, said: "It was an extremely close competition, with Tavern and Tranmere Vics continually leapfrogging each other for top spot.
"It all came down to the game between the two sides in the penultimate week of the season. Tranmere came out on top and deservedly took the title."
Mike Neal had given Tavern an early lead, but Tranmere responded strongly with goals from Dave Connor, Mike Corran and Eddie Bryers.
The Wirral regional league took place at the Byrne Recreation Centre in Birkenhead and involved eight teams from across the region.
The FA National Futsal Finals are being staged at Sheffield's English Institute of Sport on June 18-20, with the winners representing England in the UEFA Futsal Cup.
Tranmere were the first English side to take part in the UEFA Futsal Cup in 2003. They will be hoping to make a return to European football by winning the finals in Sheffield.
