Derby Miss-out on FA Title

Derby University finished as runners-up in the Plate competition at the FA National Futsal Finals.

The-five-a-side outfit missed out on the title by losing the final to Anlaby All Stars through the golden goal rule.

Sixteen teams from across the country took part in the prestigious tournament, with the University team qualifying from the Derby regional league.

Derby University are relatively new to Futsal and player/manager Earl Alexander was pleased with his side's progress in the national finals at Sheffield's English Institute of Sport.

He said: "This is our first big tournament and we had a few players missing from the squad for the weekend, so in the circumstances we did well to reach the Plate final. Our goalkeeper then suffered an injury in the final and had to be replaced by an outfield player. To lose the match in extra-time was a bit tough."
