International friendly matches

Two friendly matches were played between Cuba and Costa Rica during the past week end. The Carlos Quiros' team managed to win the first match, while in the repetition a goal scored by the Barrio Peralta pivot Junior Rodriquez Campos saved the Costa Rican National team in the last minute of the game.
Both Costa Rica and Cuba are working for the last CONCACAF Qualifying round for Chinese Taipei 2004.

Cuba goes winless in two Futsal matches against Costa Rica

4.7.04 - Cuba went winless in two friendly matches against visiting Costa Rica at the Polideportivo Kid Chocolate in La Habana from 2-3 July.
Two goals by Carlos Chaves, Junior Rodríguez and one by Marcos Carvajal led the ticos to a 5:2 victory over the cubanos in the first game on 2 July. Juniel Mendoza and Boris Zanamé had the only goals for the host in the loss.

The following day, the second encounter concluded with a 1:1 draw as Mendoza scored for Cuba, but Rodríguez answered for Costa Rica with just before the end of the match.

Both teams will compete at the 2004 CONCACAF Futsal Championship from 23-31 July at the Palacio de los Deportes in Herédia, Costa Rica.
The defending champion and host Costa Rica has been placed in Group A along with Mexico, Surinam and Trinidad & Tobago, while the Cuba is in Group B with Guyana, Panama and USA.

The eight-team CONCACAF Final Round will qualify two nations to the 2004 FIFA Futsal World Championship, to be held in Chinese Taipei from 21 November – 5 December.

CONCACAF has previously staged two Futsal qualifiers for the FIFA World Championships, in 1996 and 2000. Six teams participated in the 1996 CONCACAF event in Guatemala that was won by the USA. 1996 Results Four years later, eight squads took part in the tournament in Costa Rica, which was claimed by the host. 2000 Results
