Our Sports CentralThree Wave / Wave United Players Named to U.S. Futsal Squad for CONCACAF FinalsJuly 13, 2004 - (Milwaukee, WI) Three Milwaukee Wave / Wave United players have been named to the 12-man U.S. National Futsal Team by U.S. Coach Keith Tozer for the upcoming CONCACAF Futsal Championships July 23-31 at the Palacio de los Deportes in Heredia, Costa Rica. The top two teams from the eight-team competition will advance to the FIFA Futsal World Championships, which will take place November 21 – December 5 in Chinese Taipei.
Forwards Greg Howes and Todd Dusosky, along with defender Pat White have all been selected for the U.S. squad. Both Howes and White played for the U.S. in an earlier qualifying series v. Honduras (May 18-20), while Dusosky has played with the U.S. team on several previous occasions. Including the Milwaukee contingent, the entire squad is comprised exclusively of Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) players.
“Pat’s experience from the ’96 CONCACAF Gold Medal team will be a boost for this year’s competition, while the addition of Greg and Todd to this year’s squad gives us two top goal scorers who are very familiar with each other,” said Tozer, who has coaching the Wave since 1992 and has been in charge of the U.S. team since 1996.
Futsal, the international version of indoor soccer, is a derivative of the outdoor game played with five players on each side (four field players and a goalkeeper) utilizing a limited-bounce ball on an open (wall-less) court slightly bigger than a basketball court.
The U.S. Team will depart for Costa Rica on July 19, with its first game scheduled against Panama on July 24. The U.S. will also take on Guyana (7/26) and Cuba (7/28) in the first round
