 Guyana Futsal Team concludes Brazil tour with a draw
In preparation for the CONCACAF Futsal Championship next week, Guyana concluded its trip to Brazil holding local club team, Altetico Bonfim Clube to a 3:3 tie in Bonfim on Monday evening (12 July) to end their three-game tour unbeaten. Forwards Travis Grant, Eron Hayde and defender Travis Waterton gave the Guyanese a 3:2 halftime lead but Altetico Bonfim Clube got the equalizer late in the second half for the 3:3 final score.
Goals by defenders Orville Bobb, Omaile Norman Nassy and forward Shem Porter gave Guyana a 3:1 victory over Altetico Bonfim Clube the night before (11 July).
The Guyanese began the tour on Saturday night (10 July) with a 6:3 win over the club Normandy. Grant, Hayde, Waterton, forwards Dwayne Ali, Dexter Bentick and Alton Fraser all found the net in the victory.
Guyana heads to Herédia, Costa Rica next week to compete at the 2004 CONCACAF Futsal Championship from 23-31 July at the Palacio de los Deportes.
The eight-team tournament has Guyana in Group B along with Cuba, Panama and the USA, while Group A consist of Mexico, Surinam, Trinidad & Tobago and the host Costa Rica.
The CONCACAF event will qualify two nations to the 2004 FIFA Futsal World Championship, to be held in Chinese Taipei from 21 November – 5 December.
CONCACAF has previously staged two Futsal qualifiers for the FIFA World Championships, in 1996 and 2000. Six teams participated in the 1996 CONCACAF event in Guatemala that was won by the USA. 1996 Results Four years later, eight squads took part in the tournament in Costa Rica, which was claimed by the host. 2000 Results
