Futsal Enters A New Era

9-Aug-04

Futsal in NSW entered a new era on Wednesday 4th August when, at a special general meeting, Futsal NSW members voted overwhelmingly to support a restructure of the sport.

After months of negotiations the Management Committee of Futsal NSW recommended to its members that they support a proposal by Soccer NSW to assume responsibility for the management of the sport.

The proposal called for the establishment of a Soccer NSW Futsal department to manage the sport in accordance with the recommendations of the Crawford Report.

Under the new structure Futsal NSW will transfer “all agreed state responsibilities” to Soccer NSW as from the 1st September 2004.

The decision means that Futsal NSW members will maintain their links to both the Australian Soccer Association (ASA) and FIFA, ensuring the future of the sport at a national and international level.

Soccer NSW CEO Rob Waddell praised outgoing Futsal NSW President Craig Laffin and his committee for their positive approach to the restructure and thanked the members for the faith they have shown in supporting their management committee’s recommendation.§
