MAURICIO IN ITALY

Mauricio has been confirmed as team administrator of the Brazil Under 23's going to Italy this month for a tournament. I'm sure we are all proud of him and he certainly deserves any accolades. For those who are unaware Mauricio spent two years with us as Queensland Director of Coaching and took many happy memories for he and his family back with him. If anybody wishes to send a ' heromail ' to him he can be emailed on mauquel@zipmail.com.br

SCHOOL FINALS

The draw for this Friday's playoff finals is already on the website. Games are played at both centres starting at 8.30 am.The tournament now becomes straight knockout, with the two eventual finalists coming back a week later to determine the winner. For those looking to purchase any futsal equipment the Vikings Longboat shop will visit both centres.

SCHOOLS GRAND FINAL DAY

Next Friday will see the Grand Final Day played at Beenleigh Indoor Stadium. Each game is played 25 minutes each way rather than the playoffs 13 minutes each way.(In total there are 8 finals) . Games start around 1.00 pm as we attempt to give schools time to get to the tournament or play after school where necessary. The draw will be on the website as soon as we sort out availability of teams and a souveneir programme will be produced for the day. The Vikings Longboat will be there as well.

WHO'S HOT AT THE SCHOOLS

Usually in the office at this time of the year we start having some friendly bets on who is going to win particular age groups at the schools. I don't want to put the 'deathwish' on any teams but one team who caught my eye was Mt St Michaels 14 girls. Kelvin Genders , the futsal teacher at the school has obviously worked hard with the team. Someone suggested they must have been training in secret at night in black tracksuits , as I only recognised one girl as a ' regular ' in the futsal representative scene. They were well drilled, disciplined, playing futsal not outdoor soccer , on the court. Also watch for a strong performance from the Urangan High teams. Nic Hodgson is bringing his five qualifying teams in the night before the finals, instead of the normal four and a half hour drive starting at 4.00 am in the morning, to give his players a good nights sleep for the day.

SUNSHINE COAST FINALS DAY

I attended the finals of the Sunshine Coast Summer season at the four court Caloundra Indoor Stadium yesterday, and the day appeared to go off well.Aside from the normal finals, the club this year opted to play an all day tournament for all senior male and female teams in the association, with different teams from different competitions pitched against each other. Each team got a minimum of three games and were graded according to performance in the season. The whole competition was played in a friendly spirit and was a good finale to the season.Played in a good temperature only walking distance to the beach, I recommend to Sunshine Coast they look at an annual tournament and invite clubs from other teams in for the weekend.
It may be an good idea for other clubs to look at.
