0-154th October 2004 : The IX World University Futsal Championship kicked off in Palma Mallorca, with Graeme Dell`s selected University squad Team GBR receiving a humiliating 15 - 0 lesson against the students from Serbia Montenegro.
Ironically the first goal, scored in the forth minute, game after GBR`s Daniel Griggs had a good effort on goal saved by the opposing keeper who then initiated an attack with a long throw out, to turn defence into attack and open the scoring.
Stephen Harrison, wearing number 4, battled hard the entire game, showing at times that his understanding of game is growing fast, giving his squad options with diagonal runs off the ball. However, it was evident that the squad whilst talented lacked basic Futsal specific know-how, and once again underlined the differences between this beautiful game and the British 5-a-side version.
The Serbia Montenegro team were, however, simply too good and showed their technical superiority by keeping possession and building patiently. Sublime deft touches ensured goals scored with back flicks, two on ones and numerous tap-ins.
Team GBR where not lacking in heart and dedication and no doubt will be ready for the challenge of Ukraine tomorrow.
