St Helena Committed to Futsal

St Helena continues with it's plans for developing their National Futsal team as they embark on a series of training camps in preparation for the International competitions in which it will be competing this season.

St. Helena is a stunning tropical island in the Atlantic, and remains a British Overseas Territory perhaps best known for being the final place of exile for Napoleon, following the Battle of Waterloo in 1815.

The St. Helena National Futsal Association was established nearly two years ago with the full backing of the Island's Government---indeed H.E. the Governor is the Association's President---and it has already competed in three tournaments in Europe; indeed in its' very first international competition, a four nation event held in Belgium, St. Helena drew with the D.R. Congo 1-1, then lost to Morocco 0-2, before defeating Guinea-Conakry 4-3.

In a further competition held in Belgium in the Spring, the Association achieved its' first Tournament success in a highly competitive event against stiff opposition from both western and central Europe, overcoming a highly skilled Czech Team in the Final.

The St. Helena National Futsal Association is very keen to extend its' international experience with more full international fixtures, and would be delighted to have the opportunity to compete with other national sides during the months that lie ahead, not only to extend the standard of skill and tactical awareness that the squad has already achieved, but, importantly, to provide this beautiful island haven with the wider scale public awareness that it so richly deserves.
