BRA vs. SVK

Today, September 6th, day three of the World University Futsal Championship in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, kicked-off with a thriller between favourite Brazil and Slovakia. Team Slovakia was eager to keep the goals against limited to four as this would mean the second place in their pool, after Brazil, resulting in a comfortable spot in the next round. The Slovaks built up a wall and succeeded in keeping out the Brazilian offence which was constantly on the attack, trying to breach the defence of their opponents.
It was only in the last minute of the first half that Brasil’s number 5, Gabriel Laranjeira put a ‘one’ on the scoreboard for Brazil. Only five minutes in the second half the Brazilians scored again via Renato Braga bringing the score to a 2:0 which was also the final score of the game. Victory for Team Brazil, but Team Slovak also was successful in its mathematical strategy, maintaining the second spot in their pool.

POR vs. GBR

Great Britain also lost its third game of the championship. Being an emerging futsal nation, the Brits are learning the game the hard way. They played the game until the very end but were overwhelmed by the swift game of the Portuguese, who like the Brazilians and Spanish, master the game with grace. Portugal won the game 20:0.

HUN vs. POL

Hungary lost its third game in a row when encountering Poland today. Although the game went up simultaneously in the first period the Hungarians could not maintain the pace in the second half. Pieczynski opened the score for Poland at 8’36 in the first half. Hardly two minutes later, Hungary countered via Fondi. At the end of the first half Hungary took the lead when Orcovics drilled in the ball bringing the score to 2:1 in favour of Hungary. Early in the second half Pieczynski scored again equalizing the score 2:2. Then Poland found the breach in the Hungarian defence and they started to score repeatedly bringing the end score to 2:6 in their favour.

UKR vs. SCG

Ukraine played a close game against Serbia & Montenegro. They kept the pressure on the whole time and succeeded to score four times, Kovalyou scored once and Zamyatin scored a hattrick. In the last minute Serbia & Montenegro succeeded to put a point on the scoreboard via Trojanovic ending the game 4:1 in favour of Ukraine.

RUS vs. SUI

Switzerland, also an emerging futsal country and first time participant at the World University Futsal Championship, did have a rough time against the physical playing Russians. The Russians started to open the score from the first minute onwards and did never stop resulting in a 18:1 victory.

CZE vs. FRA

The French could not keep the offensive Czech team out of their defensive zone as the Czechs kept on attacking during the whole game. Team France tried to limit the damages but the Czechs quickly scored via Slaka. The scoreboard showed 6:0 until the French started to fight back and scored via Dodet. The French had finally found an opening and Olivier Chiso scored less than a minute later the second goal for France. The Czechs countered once more and brought their score to 7:2 whereupon France scored again bringing the score to 7:3 at the end of the first half. During the second half both teams doubled their scores resulting in 14:6 end score in favour of the Czechs.

ISR vs. TUR

Israel won its first game of the championship beating Turkey 5:3. Israel scored the first goal in the sixth minute of the game when Turgeman blasted the ball passed the Turkish goalie. A home goal followed when the ball hit Zahin and bounced into his own net. Turkey came back into the game scoring the first goal after the break via Kanat. Eight minutes later his team mate Selden equalized the score 2:2. Turgerman scored the third and fourth goal for Israel taking another r lead. Turkey tried to come back once more when Selden scored the third goal 36 minutes into the game. But then Anaroni finished off one minute later for Israel bringing the final score to 5:3.

ESP vs. SLO

Call it home team advantage, but today Spain won its third game in a row beating Slovenia 3:1. Goals were scored by Monsolin, Ferrandiz and Socastro. Slovenia saved its honour and scored its only goal via Ursic.

Tomorrow, October 7th, will be a rest day for the teams. An excellent opportunity to visit the wonderful Balearic island of Mallorca.
