QUEENSLAND WINS NATIONAL SCHOOL TITLES At the National School Titles held last week, Queensland ended up overall champions, winning 5 of the 14 titles and runnersup in 6. ACT also won 5 but were runnersup in 2 and NSW won 4 and were runnersup in 6. This was a great turnaround on last year's school titles when Queensland won no titles. Full results of the tournament can be found at www.qldfutsal.com.au and going to 2004 library. The results of the individual school titles can be found at the same website.
QUEENSLAND WINS STATE OF ORIGIN The very first State of Origin tournament was held between NSW and Queensland last week, competing in four age groups...16 boys,16 girls, open men and open women. The competition was held at Coffs Harbour, which is half way between Sydney and Brisbane. Each team has two games with Queensland inaugural winners 4 wins to 2 (plus 2 draws) This will now become an annual event on the calendar.

VIKINGS VISIT HERVEY BAY THIS WEEKEND The Vikings travelled up to Maryborough yesterday to play display games against local Fraser Coast teams. The youth men, 16-year boys and 16-year girls all made the trip up for the day. Games were played at Maryborough Showgrounds. Report from regional administrator Paul Weber. " Dal Ponte Vikings U/19 Men's, U/16 Boys & U/16 Girls Squads were in Maryborough on Saturday the 16th where they conducted a training clinic for local juniors. Around 30 - 40 young players came from Bundaberg and Childers to get the chance to be coached by some of the best coaches and players in the state. The session ran for about 1 and 1/2 hours and all the players really had a workout and appreciated the chance for the high level of coaching. After the training session there were three games played for the crowd to see these teams in action. The first game was a clash of two representative teams with the Qld Country U/15 team taking on the Dalponte U/16 Boys. Things were close at half-time with a 3-1 score line but fitness and great skill saw the Dalponte squad come home with a flurry of goals to win convincingly. In the second game the Dalponte women were far to strong early in the game but to their credit the local Fraser Coast ladies held the visitors scoreless in dying moments of the game and even scored a great team goal. The 9-1 score did not relate the true nature of the second half of the game. In the final game crowd were treated to amazing exhibition of fast and furious Futsal at it's best. The Fraser Coast men were simply outplayed by a much faster unit who were so cohesive in all the actions it was awsome to watch. To their credit all the Fraser Coast teams never gave up even though the scoreboard certainly was ticking over against them. Thanks also to Senior Viking Jovan Gacesa who coached the Under 15 country state team on Saturday."
DAL PONTE VIKINGS JUNIOR ACADEMYS This year we have set up four academy teams in the city and one (Centra Qld) in the country. In February next year we will holding selections for regional Vikings Academys in Wide Bay, South West, Townsville and Cairns. Stay tuned for more news.
A BIG CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR LOYAL FUTSAL TEACHERS. With the naming of the Australian men's and women's teams today its valuable to reflect on the role a number of our Futsal schools have taken in developing players. I remember arguing with people ten years ago that rather than market to soccer clubs we have to push Futsal in the schools, and develop a generation of kids loyal to Futsal as a sport and not as a training game. I'm happy to say that this day has certainly arrived and I'd like to publicly thank some teachers who have had a role in the development of the present batch of INDOOROOS.
MENS: DAMIEN PILAT( Padua College..taught by DAN CULL ) DANNY NGALAUFE (Cleveland High..taught by ROSS PAIGE) WOMENS: ALIESE HOFFMAN (Caloundra High..taught by NICOLE ANTONELLI) NARELLE CAMPBELL (Redbank Plains High.taught by ALAN PRADELLA) SIMONE FORBES (Maryborough High...taught by ALEXI ROSS) GABRIELLE CONQUEST..NANCY PARKER( both products of St Francis College..taught by member of the 1996 Vikings National Champions PAUL MCKARZEL) Of the 5 teams that attended the very first school titles back in 1992, Paul McKarzel and Alan Pradella both had teams there. I'm sure the players as well as Queensland Futsal would like to thank the above teachers for their time over the years. And I'd like to thank those other teachers who are not mentioned here but are battling away in their own area developing/coaching the sport.

NEW ZEALAND NEWS The news is also good from New Zealand. Paul has competitions up and running in both Christchurch and Dunedin. The schools have responded extremely well to the sport and we are about to set up the first School Futsal Centre of Excellence in Dunedin.
Last week we had visitors from the North Island over to look at how Vikings and Queensland Futsal operate and they are keen for their clubs to become part of the Vikings Family. When our under 13 team tours New Zealand in November, sides from the North Island will also be coming to Christchurch to compete in a tournament.

AND NOW FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT Last newsletter I gave some famous quotes from Brian Clough. This week I have listed some famous 'gaffes' from British soccer commentators. 'Welcome to Bologna on Capital Gold for England versus San Marino with Tennent's Pilsner, brewed with Czechoslovakian yeast for that extra Pilsner taste and England are one down.' - JONATHAN PEARCE 'Never go for a 50-50 ball unless you're 80-20 sure of winning it.' - IAN DARKE 'Lee Sharpe has got dynamite in his shorts' - STUART HALL 'If that had gone in, it would have been a goal' - DAVID COLEMAN 'It's now 1-1, an exact reversal of the scoreline on Saturday.' - RADIO 5 LIVE 'You don't score 64 goals in 86 games without being able to score goals.' - ALAN GREEN 'Nicky Butt, he's another aptly named player. He joins things, brings one sentence to an end and starts another.' - BARRY DAVIES (pictured) 'Arsenal are quick to credit Bergkamp with laying on 75% of their nine goals.' - TONY GUBBA '...and he crosses the line with the ball almost mesmerically tied to his foot with a piece of string.' - IAN DARKE 'If ever the Greeks needed a Trojan horse, it is now.' - GERALD SINSTADT 'It's as if there's a magnet on the outside of the posts and bar.' - JOHN HELM 'He's passing the ball like Idi Amin.' - ALAN PARRY 'A peep, peep, peep, another peep, and that's it.' - BARRY DAVIES greets a final whistle. 'What a debut for the young goalkeeper, as a striker.' - PETER DRURY 'What did you say to Souness after the end of the final whistle?' - TONY GUBBA 'It was one of the best goals I've seen this millenium.' - TONY GUBBA 'Bruce, on his right foot, is still running...' - ALAN GREEN 'Cantona's expression speaking the whole French dictionary without saying a word.' - BARRY DAVIES 'Some supporters have come down onto the pitch from over the edge of the upper tier.' - NEVILLE FOULGER 'The long goal kick, and now, this could fall...' - GERALD 'not Issac Newton' SINSTADT 'He went through a non-existant gap.' - CLIVE TYLDESLEY 'Peru score their third, and it's 3-1 to Scotland.' - DAVID COLEMAN
