News from St. Helena

The Island of St. Helena's National Futsal Association has completed the first of its' 2004 Autumn Trials in preparation for the series of tournaments and friendly matches it is to undertake during the coming months.

The Trials were held over two days earlier this month, and nearly forty Futsal hopefuls took part, competing in a series of practice matches which culminated, on the second day, to a full scale match between the Probables and the Possibles. The game was a highly entertaining contest, and the coaching staff were pleased with the level of skill and tactical awareness displayed by the Triallists, since these two of the most crucial elements of the game to gain success at the higher levels of international competition; the final score went in favour of the Probables, by four goals to two..

The Association was established by the St. Helena F.A. under the chairmanship of Peter Yon with the full approval of the Government of St.Helena, and has been charged with a range of tasks, in addition to the promotion and development of the sport at home and overseas, including the aim to bring to a wider international audience a greater awareness of, and interest in, the Island of St. Helena and all that it has to offer.

The Association is represented by two teams; membership of the National side, representing St. Helena itself, is open to British subjects who were born in, or who are resident in, St. Helena and the United Kingdom, whilst membership of the Association's representative team is open to nationals of other countries who are interested in playing for the Island, and promoting its' interests.

St. Helena is seeking additional match and tournament experience, and those associations and teams who are interested in playing against this new entrant to the world Futsal community should contact Peter Yon at the e-mail address given below, whilst those seeking information about the Island itself should consult the Government's website.
