SBS TO COVER AUSSIE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP TEAMS

Thursday 28 October 2004

The Qantas Young Matildas (Australian Women’s Under 19’s) and Qantas Futsalroos (Australian Men’s Indoor) profiles in Australia will increase dramatically following the announcement that SBS will show coverage of the two teams at their respective World Championship tournament’s in November.

In what is a giant step for the development for these two areas of the code, SBS as part of its November Football Fever will show some two of the Under 19 team’s games live, with the third on delay, while the Futsal team’s games will all be shown on a delayed coverage.

The Qantas Young Matildas opening match of the FIFA Under 19 Women’s World Championships against Canada, will be screened live on Wednesday 10 November at 11.35pm. Having finished fifth at the inaugural tournament in Canada in 2002, Australia, with Athens Olympians Sally Shipard, Kylie Ledbrook and Selin Kurulay leading the way, will be looking for a good start against a very good Canadian team.

Australia’s second against Germany on Saturday 13 November will be screened on a delayed telecast at 11.40pm, while the third match against host nation Thailand on Tuesday 16 November, will be screened live at 11.35pm.

SBS will also show the first of the semi finals live, while the second semi final and the final will be delayed telecasts.

In conjunction, SBS will show all three of the Qantas Futsalroos games, with the first match against three-time World Champions Brazil on Monday 22 November to be shown at 10.50pm.

The second match against the Czech Republic on Thursday 25 November will be shown at 11.00pm, while Australia’s third match against Thailand on Saturday 27 November will kick-off at 12.15pm.

SBS will also show both semi finals and the final on delayed telecasts.

Fans are advised to check your local TV guides for more details of exact dates and times of all fixtures.
