Thailand hoping for improved performance in 2005

In contrast to the 11-a-side squad, Thailand's futsal team (5-a-side) did very well, qualifying for the Fifa Futsal World Championship for the second time.

Played in Taiwan, Thailand were in a tough group with three times champions, Brazil, the Czech Republic and Australia.

In what turned out to be the key game, Thailand just lost 2-1 to the Czech Republic, despite scoring first through Lertchai Issarasuwipakorn.

They were predictably beaten 9-1 by Brazil but put on a spirited performance to defeat Australia 3-2 with goals from Anucha Munjaroen, Pattaya Piemkum and Yuthana Polsak.

It was their first ever victory in the Fifa World Futsal championship and their celebrations were justly deserved.
