Futsal meet to pick national team

PETALING JAYA: The fourth National Futsal Championship, which starts today at the Sports Planet Centre in Ampang will serve as the selection ground for the national teams to two major tournaments next year.

The two tournaments are the Asian Football Confederation and Asean Football Federation championships.

“We will be selecting players from this tournament to represent the country in the two major events next year,” said FAM secretary Datuk Dell Akbar Khan.

A total of 18 teams from FA of Malaysia (FAM) affiliates except for Sarawak and Kelantan are taking part. FA of Malaysia (FAM) are also putting up a team – Malaysian Tigers.

The champions will receive RM10,000 while the runners-up take home RM5,000. The third and fourth place finished will receive RM3,000 and RM2,000 respectively.



THE GROUPINGS

Group A: Malaysian Tigers, Terengganu, Sabah, Malacca.

Group B: Perlis, Persatuan Melayu Malaysia, Negri Sembilan, Selangor, Pahang.

Group C: MAKSAK, Armed Forces, Johor, Perak, Kedah.

Group D: Kuala Lumpur, MASUM, Penang, Police
