News from Finnish futsal

The sixth round of the Finnish Cup 2004/2005 was completed during the past week, so that now all is ready for the final four, which will be played in Valkeakosk on the next week-end (26-27/2/2005). Here are the last matches result and a brief introduction of the four finalists by our collaborator Matti Willgren.

Finnish Futsal Cup 2004/2005

FiKuninkaat - MaKu 7-8 a.e.t. (7-7;0-5)
GFT - LehPa 4-3 (2-2)
TP-Kaarle - TPK 3-8 (2-2)
Ilves Fs - Härmä 11-2 (5-1)

Final four tournament

Semifinals:

Golden Futsal Team (GFT)
This season, the team which conquered Finnish Championship two years ago, ended ninth in the regular season and then won the Lower Group. So they were seventh in this years league. There are three players in GFT that have been chosen to the national team to play in four nation tournament in France. These players are goalkeeper Matias Sarelius, Janne Rantala and Jani Modig. In the quarterfinal match GFT won LehPa 4-3.


Ilves Fs
Ilves has won two championships in a row. This season they are trying to win the double. Last year they lost in the semifinal match to GFT at extra time.
They are trying to obtain a sport revenge from last year. National team coach Jouni Pihlaja chose three players from his own team to national team: Jaakko Laitinen, Janne Mertanen and Teemu Terho. In the quarterfinal match Ilves Fs won Härmä 11-2.


Marmiksen Kuula (Maku)
This team played in the first division and won the southern group. This didn't was enough to promotion to Premierleague. In the qualification group they had as many points as FTK that was promoted to premier league and KaaPo that were relegated to first division. In the quarterfinal match in futsal cup MaKu won Kuninkaat 8-7 at extra time.


Turun Palloseura (TPK)
TPK got silvermedal last year in the Finnish League. This season they ended in the Lower Group two points behind GFT and they were eighth. TPK will also have one player in the national team: Goalkeeper Marko Laaksonen has been invited to play in France. In the quarterfinal match TPK won last years cup winner TP-Kaarle 8-3.
