RUSSIAN SUPERLEAGUE

ROUND 14

A SIGN OF RESURRECTION

All CSKA supporters waited for this moment. Two months and a half without victories, lack of points, only the eigth position in the standing, a lot of injuries and suspended players disappointed everybody. At last the dark time came to its end. CSKA won.

But it won only in the second match of round 14. The first one again finished in a draw. That was a “lazy”, not pretty game. None of the sides deserved three points. Few goal occasions, few shots on goal, few keeper's saves…
On the following day everything changed upside down. But only in the second part of the game when TTG-JAVA coach Vladimir Grigoriev took a very strange decision – to play with five field players when the score was absolutely equal – 0:0. At first Serguei Antipov opened the score thanks a good kick. Then Gorbunov (he played for Russia at EURO-2005 in Ostrava) gave again hope for his team mates. But Grigoriev wanted more goals. TTG-JAVA kept on playing “in majority”. Soon revenge came. The brothers Antipov “tnrew” a ball to the empty space. While holding their attacks the opponents wasted time. That is why a long waited CSKA victory was logical as well as Grigoriev's risk was unjustifiable.

Interview

Alexander Babkin (CSKA head coach):
- "Both games were tough enough. In Kislovodsk where we had a special training period CSKA players worked effectively. But as it is said – you never know where you will find or where you will lose. Unfortunately we could not play with S. Antipov (family problems) and Zinchenko and Kolesnikov (both guys had to miss the game because of three yellow cards got in previous matches). The players did their best to win. No doubt at the moment we can't fight for medals. That is our main comparison from TTG-JAVA. As for the second match the decision of my colleague to let the fifth field player come on to the ground so early was useful for us. We managed to score when the real TTG goalkeeper was out. I thank guys for this. We have not won for two months and a half. At last we “broke the chains” and this damned series of lost and draw matches is over. Maybe that is a sign of resurrection. In any case I hope we will act much better than before".

Vladimir Grigoriev (TTG-JAVA head coach):
"Four points in two matches mean a great gift to CSKA and its fans. So, I congratulate my colleague with the victory. His team has not won for a long time. 11 matches were a long period of waiting. I do not think I was wrong replacing Kupatadze with Alecio every time. For three parts (1,5 matches) I waited for something constructive, something clever or smart in attacks. Then I found out it was for nothing. So, I decided to play with five players. I hoped while having one player more we would score a goal and would lead. I am aware of that it was a risk but we needed to destroy a very tough CSKA defense. We just had no luck…"
