Futsal eight ready to go

Thursday, 24 February 2005

The fixtures have been confirmed for the forthcoming UEFA Futsal Cup second qualifying round mini-tournaments to be played in Charleroi and Moscow.

Tough section

Group A features mini-tournament hosts Action 21 Charleroi, the Belgian side who finished runners-up in the 2002 and 2003 editions of this competition, along with defending champions Boomerang Interviú FS of Spain. Completing this tough section are Sporting Clube de Portugal and Slovenian side KMN Litija. The matches will be played over three days - 14, 15 and 17 March - on a round-robin basis.

Shakhtar return

Group B will follow in the same format on 19, 20 and 22 March with Russian hosts MFC Dinamo Moskva tackling El Pozo Murcia FS, FC Dorozhnik Minsk and FC Shakhtar Donetsk of Spain, Belarus and Ukraine respectively. Only Shakhtar, in the 2002/03 season, have ever reached this stage of the competition before.

32 teams

All eight teams qualified by winning their groups in the first qualifying round, which was held last October. The competition, which has included 32 teams from 31 European countries, actually began the previous month with a preliminary round hosted by English entrants Sheffield Hallam FC, with SK Tirana of Albania and FC MAG Varna of Bulgaria.
