Sides ensure Group B decider

Sunday, 20 March 2005

El Pozo Murcia FS and MFC Dinamo Moskva set up a final-day UEFA Futsal Cup second qualifying round Group B showdown after both made it two wins from two.

Comfortable wins

Mini-tournament hosts Dinamo, fresh from a 6-2 opening win against FC Shakhtar Dontesk yesterday, defeated FC Dorozhnik Minsk 10-6. Before that, Murcia overcame Shakhtar by the same 8-0 scoreline by which they beat Dorozhnik on the previous day.

Quickfire goals

Spanish side Murcia made their intentions clear with four goals within eleven minutes. Vinicius broke the deadlock in the sixth minute, while the captain Paulo Roberto doubled the lead four minutes later and Cobeta and Alvaro added further goals in the following 60 seconds.

'Playing well'

In the 19th minute Vinicius and Lenisio both struck, and early in the second half Alvaro scored again. Lenisio completed the victory two minutes from time. "We dominated this game and managed to keep a clean sheet," said Murcia coach Duda. "Our opponents kept fighting until the end, but we were playing well tonight."

Dinamo target

Dinamo needed a win by 12 goals to overtake Murcia and ensure they only needed to draw their final encounter. It did not look inconceivable when a Sergei Ivanov strike, a Dmitri Matsiuk own goal and a Stanislav Larionov effort made it 3-0 on six minutes. Andrei Miranovich pulled one back four minutes later, but Alexiy Kudlay and Konstantin Maevskiy soon extended the lead only for Dorozhnik captain Serghei Kuznecov to make it 5-2 before the break.

Joan hat-trick

Ivanov scored again two minutes after the interval, Vasiliy Voronin then further reduced the gap, and although Brazilian forward Joan struck a hat-trick for Dinamo and Cirilo also scored, goals from Kuznecov, Vadim Lushkovskiy and Victor Ivanutin made the result respectable for the Belarussian champions.

'Awful mistakes'

"We were a little bit concerned with trying to get that 12-goal lead, which was almost impossible," said Dinamo coach Juriy Rudnev. "This resulted in some awful mistakes in defence and six goal conceded, which is totally unacceptable."

Tuesday decider

Murcia now only need to gain a point on Tuesday against Dinamo, who must win, to reach the two-legged final against Action 21 Charleroi, fresh from eliminating holders Boomerang Interviú FS in Group A. Similarly, Dorozhnik must defeat Shakhtar to take third place from the Ukrainian club.
