23/03/2005 UEFA Futsal Committee Meeting - March 10th
As was reported by the greatest part of futsal media, on March 10th was staged the UEFA Futsal Committee Meeting in order to discuss some futsal topics and possible changes in future competitions. As many matters were discussed, below you can find a resume of the main points.
- Survey on European Futsal current condition. A questionnaire will be sent to the National Associations in order to focus on their immediate requirements.
- Business plan in order to point out the main goals: coaches courses, refereeing, national teams Under 21 development - Preference (reccomendation) given by the UEFA Futsal Committee to the Executive Committee about the UEFA European Futsal Championship Organization in 2007: after a three months evaluation period Portugal seems to be the favourite to host the event. This indication can't be considered as official: the Executive Committee will have to accept the Futsal Committee indication in Tallin (Estonia), on next April 20th. The kick off of the next European Championship could also be postponed to November 2007
- 2nd UEFA Futsal Conference in Madrid ("Ciudad del Futbol" in Las Rozas) was scheduled for February 13th - 15th, 2006.
- UEFA Futsal Cup 2005/2006, tournament formula changes. Another indication to be approved in Tallin is the introduction of the semifinal matches (home and away matches) after the second stage groups (the current semifinals groups) of four clubs.
- Effort, together with the National Associations, in order to create National Teams Under 21 in all countries which are still missing it. UEFA will not have the chance to create a new competition for National Teams Under 21 before reaching the minimun amount of 27 countries having a team U21 (50% + 1 of UEFA countries: 52/2=26 + 1= 27).
Having, until now, about 20 countries already playing in the Under 21 category, there will be the chance, in future, to create an experimental tournament like happened in Cordoba 1996 with National teams "A" This, anyway, is not related to the news coming from Italy about an Under 21 International tournament on next June (to be played in Aosta or Vico Equense), that would not be UEFA sanctioned.
