AFCMALAYSIA - In line with the vision for more integration within the community, the FA of Malaysia (FAM) today jointly launched a unique age-group Futsal tournament called ‘International Junior Futsal Friendship Cup.’
The Futsal championship, which will be held on March 5th at the Sports Planet Futsal Centre in Kuala Lumpur, is a collaboration between the FAM, youth magazine Sports Unite, European Union Malaysian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (EUMCCI), the National Sports Council (NSC) and MILO.
The meet will provide an opportunity for young players from the international schools and local schools of mixed nationalities and races to interact and compete in the spirit of international friendship in this junior Futsal carnival.
“The idea behind this Futsal tournament is good where it will create some form of international understanding between players at a very young age,” said FAM Vice President Dato’ Seri Dr. Ibrahim Saad.
“It will eradicate compartmentalisation where the FAM feels that is the right move to organise this meet with such a positive concept.”
Entries are on a first come, first serve basis although there will be two categories of age-group allowed.
For the boy’s Under-16, ten international schools and 20 Malaysian schools will be allowed to take part while for the Under-12, eight international schools and 12 local schools will be registered.
The top four teams in each category will receive winner’s medals and hampers while the champion team from the U-16 and the U-12 will take home the International Friendship Cup.
