Bill Truschel for their priceless collaboration.

Web Site:
www.malwee.com.br Cup QueenThe name of
Malwee/Jaraguà in Brazilian futsal is well known, especially related to a particular competition: the prestigious
Taça Brasil de Clubes. The Brazilian National Cup, the "real" and traditional national competition in Brazil, registered the same winner in the last three editions: Malwee/Jaraguà. After winning towards their local fans in 2003 (
Click here to know more), the Ferretti's boys were able to repeat the impressive result in the two following edition played in Goiania and Carlos Barbosa (
2004: click here;
2005: click here)
South American triumphWhy is Malwee/Jaraguà in Puertollano? Quite simple: at the end of a spectacular brazilian derby against ACBF played in Mar de Plata (Argentina),
Malwee was crowned as South American Champion (
Zona Sur:
click here). But this impressive victory was still not enough: to become the absolute South American Champion the Brazilian club had a further task against the Peruvian champions of
Deportivo Kansas (Sudamericano Champions - Zona Norte:
click here). In a double match played in Lima, Malwee/Jaraguà easily defeated their opponents (
click here) obtaining a ticket for the Intercontinental Cup. In the recent triumphs list we cannot avoid to mention the last three State titles (
Estadual Santa Catarina 2002, 2003 and 2004) together with the
Copa Sul 2005 recently won in Erechim.
Falcão's orphan and still looking for the first Liga FutsalEven if Malwee/Jaraguà is definitely one of the most important brazilian clubs, the Catarinense team is still waiting for the first triumph in the Liga Futsal, goal which become a little more harder having lost the
best player of the World, as recognized by FIFA and Futsalplanet.com Awards: Alessandro Rosa Vieira, universally known as
Falcão, who left futsal pitches in order to try again the soccer experience with
São Paulo FC (in the current list of players of Malwee/Jaraguà there is the Falcão's brother, the gk
Thiago).
After that, there was a negotiation with Playas in order to sign the brazilian flank
Seco, with no results. The sports director of the club, Cacá Pavanello, still think about a possible way back for Falcão, who would be not satisfied with his current soccer experience.

Have a look at...Liga Futsal 2005 and Intercontinental Cup: these are the main goals of Malwee/Jaraguà in this moment. Due to this reason was built a team which, hopefully, could manage to reach the expected results.
The "fixo" (defender)
James was back from Spain (Valencia Vijusa), while the departure of Franklin (now in Italy with Seep Luparense) was replaced by an historical brazilian keeper like
Bagè.
Also, don't forget about these names:
Xoxo and
Chico, with some talented and young players like
Valdin and
Willian.

ACBF (Carlos Barbosa)City: Carlos Barbosa, state of Rio Grande do Sul (RS) (Brazil)
Web Site:
www.acbf.com.br Title HolderFebruary 22nd, 2004:
Carlos Barbosa was crowned with the Intercontinental Cup title (
click here) at the end of an unforgettable match against
Playas de Castellon. It was another team, but there are no doubts about the strong intention of
Paulo Mussalem to revalidate the title.
National and State champions. A nigthmare named MalweeOne of the greatest results of
ACBF was definitely given by the last edition of the prestigious Liga Futsal. The 2004 edition (the second title after the 2001 victory for ACBF) went to the
Laranja Mecânica at the end of a great final series against Ulbra (
Also, Carlos Barbosa conquered the Estadual league of Rio Grande Do Sul by defeating
UCS/Moreflex.
On the other hand
Malwee/Jaraguà was responsible for two disappointing results of the
gaucho team: the
Taça Brasil de Clubes 2004 (
click here) and the South American Championship (
Zona Sur:
Heavy departuresThe "super-team" of the past season doesn't exist anymore, considering that
Gabriel (Boomerang Interviu),
Pablo (Playas De Castellon) and
Betão (Lobelle de Santiago) decided to try the European experience in the Spanish Division de Honor. Something quite normal for a brazilian club, even if keeping the same level of the past season will not be easy for Paulo Mussalem, who at least managed to "save"
Carlinhos who was very next to sign with the Italian club
Seep Luparense.
Fininho and more...The ACBF star is still
Fininho, we're not in need to introduce a futsal legend. The young fixo
Carlinhos, together with the great goalkeeper
Lavoisier (more than 100 matches with brazilian national team) are two more well known names. Unfortunately Carlos Barbosa will miss two basic players like the pivot
Flavio, still training after an injury, as happened for his team mate
Bruno. Some new and interesting names in the current
plantel: Bruno Melo and Dionízio from Universo de Pernambuco, Junior Cabeca,
De Bail (from John Deere Futsal), while the talented pivot
Elisandro has been promoted in the "A" team.

Pittsburgh Futsal ClubeCity: Pittsburgh (Usa)
Web Site:
www.pittsburghfutsal.com Brazilian influencePittsburgh Futsal Clube was created thanks to the
Bill Truschel willing. When Pittsburgh was awarded the host site for the 2003 US Region 1 Championship and it was decided that the tournament would take place in the arena owned and operated by the Truschel's family just outside of Pittsburgh, he decided to put together a team with some friends and some experienced players, starting with
Marcus Guimaraes and
Vitor Brito who came to Pittsburgh from Brazil a few years earlier to sign up with an agent. Thanks also to their advices the team could improve signing a few players whom they had grown up with and were living in the United States and thought that they might help the team, so that is how I was introduced to
Andre "Monty" Santos and
Marcus "Chipa" Reis. With those four, a goalkeeper,
Matt Bordogna, who converted from a hockey goalkeeper to Futsal very nicely and some players from our local professional outdoor team (the Pittsburgh Riverhounds, who are now Division 3 in the United States and that were Division 2 at the time). Pittsburgh Futsal Club had the beginnings of a good team for US Futsal standards and breezed through the state championship that year to qualify for the regional championship. The Regional championship gave them a wake-up call early as teams that had been together for a few years were a lot more organized and it took a great effort to win that
first Regional championship even with the skill that we had.
When they went to nationals that first year, we reinforced the team with some guys from Wake Forest University soccer team, because one,
Ryan Caugherty, had been playing with Truschel since he was 10 years old and Wake Forest is one of the top programs in the United States. We did well at that championship in California that year, losing out to World United in a group game by the score of 3-2. They scored on a set piece from a free kick with only 1 minute left in the game. Afterwords, World United went on to win the National Championship easily and represented the United States in the last Intercontinental.
World United actually took Monty from Pittsburgh as a guest player when the tournament was in Barcelona, but the team that they brought last year was not a good representation of how good they actually are, because their best players could not afford to travel.
National triumphIn its second year Pittsburgh again won the state league easily, the Regional, located in Boston, winning against a good home team on their court and starting to have the organization and put the right chemistry together to have the confidence and composure of champions. Monty Santos was working full time for the club, to get the team organized and market us. When the
National Championship of 2004 came around, Pittsburgh futsal Clube had a friendly warm up game against the US national team that went to the final 8 in Chinese-Taipei, leaving a great impression in people attending the match.
The championship was good, and Pittsburgh, now seemingly clicking on all cylinders could not be stopped this time and World United in the final could only muster 1 goal in a 4-1 defeat.
Third season The team’s third year started with the excitement of the
Intercontinental, In the meanwhile Pittsburgh went through "its routine", the State and Regional leagues (never easy) and was preparing to defend the national Title again when arrived from Lnfs the official invitation to take part in the great event.
As head coach
Bill Truschel, due to personal reasons, will not be able to follow the team in Puertollano,
Brad Pope (team goalkeeper) was designated as the coach.
Players missingAs happened for World United in the past season, many players left the team in order to find "better jobs" (as US futsal is still not professional):
James Riley is now playing for the New England Revolution in the MLS, while
Ryan Caugherty signed in Denish second division with B1909.
