Donghua University won the second China University futsal league
The final of the 2004-2005 Lining Cup China university futsal league came to an end in DONGHUA university of Shanghai on May 29. After 6 days' competition, the host,
Donghua university, won the championship.
The final match was between the host team, Donghua university, and the
South China University of Technology, with an impressive crowd of about 2000 spectators in the stadium. The host team defeated the South China university team
7-3, while the Chengdu based
Southwest university of Nationalities, which was called a black horse in this season, won the third place beating
Beijing University of Technology 8-7 on penalty shootout after a 2-2 draw in the full time.
The most famous chinese football star, Hao Haidong attended the prize ceremony.
There were 16 university teams in the national final in Shanghai and they were splitted in 4 groups.
With the joint efforts of the
Federation of University Sports of China and the
Beijing Lining sport development company, the second
Chinese University futsal league has been started since november 2004 to june 2005. There were 14 regions and cities involved in this league and was estimated that at least 226 university teams participated in this league across the whole country.
The league has been planed into 2 stages of regional selections and national finals. On the first stage, the competitions were held in the 14 regions and cities, which were as follows: Beijing ,Tianjin, Shanghai, Liaoning, Shandong, Jiangsu, Guangdong, Hunan, Hubei, Shanxi, Sichuan, Zhejiang, Fujian, Yunnan.
The local education committees were authorized to organize the first stage competitions in respective regions from november 2004 to april 2005.
The 14 regional champions qualified for the national final along with the last national champion team and the host university team. On the national finals stage, from may-june 2005, in Donghua university of Shanghai, the 16 teams were splitted into 4 groups with last champion team, host team and teams from the same regions as the previous two teams as the seeded teams of the each group. The best two teams of each group qualified for the quarter finals which are the knockout stage to semifinals.
The first Chinese University futsal league was inaugurated in October 2003 and finished in July 2004. There were 295 university teams from 13 regions all over China taking part in the league. The Shenyang University of Technology defeated Sichuan University to become the first National Champion, while Sichuan University was the runner up.
