RUSSIAN SUPERLEAGUE

ROUND 21

WE ARE JUST THE SEVENTH

CSKA took just one point in round 21 of Superleague Championship. As a result the Red Army team ensured the seventh position in the table no matter what results of the final round are.

MATCH 1

That was a game for one guy. There is Alexander Kopeikin who scored twice and became a CSKA hero of the day. He had got a wonderful opportunity to score a decisive goal. He stood close to VIZ keeper Serguei Zuev. Nobody opposed Kopeikin. The shot by Alexander was very slight. Zuev did not guess the direction of a flying ball. But the ball touched the net from the other side.
Generally the Urals team played faster and with more pressure on CSKA defensive line. VIZ attacks looked more dangerous. But the match ended with a draw 2:2 that did not satisfy Victor Papaev, VIZ-Sinara head coach, which team kept on contesting silver medals.

Alexander Babkin (CSKA head coach):
- At the present VIZ is stronger than us. I mean as its mode of playing as its line-up. 90 per cent of their task – to play attentively in defense and “catch” the opponents in their attacks to hold our ones – my guys carried out. The final result is absolutely just. As for Kopeikin who scored two goals instead of probable three, I have to recognize that it is not his guilt. He had passed much time without training until he came on to the pitch. So, I cannot blame him for a missed chance.

MATCH 2

On the following day the Red Army team looked better. At the beginning it missed some goals but sooner CSKA forwards eliminated VIZ score advantage. Unfortunately then CSKA defenders made several mistakes that let the guests play smoothly and without fuss. At the last minute Babkin sent the five field player to the pitch but the logical coach decision brought no result. Just one more goal was missed. The Russia hero of EURO-2005 Vladislav Shaiakhmetov shot on empty net and put an end to CSKA attempts to save this match.

Alexander Babkin (CSKA head coach):
- Before the second match we suffered some losses. Because of illness our goalkeeper Oleg Tolstikhin sat down on the bench. The same happened to the CSKA key-defender Maltsev. I let him play only in the second part of the game. This day we were not an equal side to VIZ, we did not oppose the guest team as toughly as necessary. When the score was 3:3, we got a brilliant chance to lead. But several awful mistakes in CSKA defensive line “killed” us. And we lost. I must say our problems don't diminish VIZ rights for this victory. The Urals guys deserved it. I wish my colleague Victor Papaev to win medals, no matter what kind they are.

RUSSIAN SUPERLEAGUE

ROUND 22

CHEKHOV WILL BE RED AND BLUE!

Thanks to one draw and one victory the Red-Army team deprived Dina, legendary Russian Futsal Club, of medals. On the first day of round 22 – silver ones, on the second – bronze ones. CSKA shocked even their credible fans with fantastic playing. Everyone knew CSKA would try to act as well as possible. No one could foresee the players in red and blue would give the spectators an unbelievably smart performance as if CSKA had contested the second or the third place in the table.

MATCH 1

The first game was too hard for CSKA. Dina attacked as dangerous as possible. No doubt, the hosts team that has held its home matches in Chekhov for two last years is a strong opponent. Before CSKA voyage beyond Moscow red-blue players had got only one won match. Only one for seven years… But they did not pay much attention to the history. They set off to Chekhov to put a right end to a very unlucky season. As always a well organized group of supporters accompanied Babkin's team.
On May, 20 Alexander Voronin took place in his farewell match for CSKA. This pre-season (in summer) he leaves the club. The same refers to Dmitry Chugunov, EURO-1999 champion. Voronin became a real hero of the first match because at least made seven mortal saves. Generally CSKA defended its territory, having accent on rapid contra-blows. Twice CSKA scored after renewing of the game. The first goal was created by Kopeikin and Somkhishvili. The captain made a kick-off. He «threw» ball into the goalkeeper zone, it touched Somkhishvili, changed the direction of its flight and jumped into the net. The second goal became a result of the Antipovs two-step attack. Serguei passed right from the left wing line, Alexander just touched a ball. In a second Dina turned into a loosing side.
But there was Alexander Verighnikov, the most titled Russian Futsal player of our days. He also scored twice, standing alone close to a far post. Both goals were classical. But his partners did not score one goal more though wanted to break the red-blue wall. It did not disappear from Dina's way. So, the hosts lost two points. That was just a beginning of their drama.

Alexander Babkin (CSKA head coach):
- Today two tired teams have met. I must say that any team led by me always plays honestly. We have never sold out our matches no matter what place we keep. CSKA is not an exclusion to the rules. I understand Dina needs medals. As for CSKA we should protect our own image, the glorious name the club has got. We spent a very contradictory season. And we did not want to lose at its end. The guys fought with open soul. I think tomorrow everything will be the same. Some words about our fans. It is a shame to play badly in front of them. Today we have also fought for them. Their support is the best in the League. They are the best in the League. They follow us wherever we go. There are not any clubs in the Superleague with such honest, faithful and active fans. We thank them over and over again. And I promise that the last match of the season will be dedicated to them. We'll do our best to make them happy.

MATCH 2

There was a real show on the following day. Dina equaled a score just once. It happened in the first part. The rest of the game was held under the guests control. Dina pressed CSKA defensive line. It had acted with five field players since minute 28. But without serious effect. Dina scored two goals (there was Dushkevich who shot as a gun). They decided nothing because after the third goal by S. Antipov, his brother Alexander (twice) and the young guy Georgy Somkhishvili crashed the empty space (a “goalkeeper” Bely could not be a savior for any situation on the pitch) with three tight and goal blows.
At the press-conference that had been held after the match Victor Vladuschenkov, Dina's head coach, considered the CSKA victory logical. As for the risky changing Putintsev-Bely-Putintsev, he said he needed to resurrect his team, to make it run faster to break CSKA resistance. As for CSKA fans, they were full of happiness and pride for red-blue colours. During the final siren they jumped from the stand on to the ground to greet their lovely players.
“Chekhov will be red and blew!”, this slogan was heard over the little town for two hours passed after the end of this dramatic match…

Alexander Babkin (CSKA head coach):
- Maybe we wanted to win more than Dina, I don't know. Of course, it is a brilliant end of this hard year. I just can greet my guys and our fans. Both sides – players and supporters – made a smart victory possible. I think this result is honest. We played better. Dina needed bronze medals. Dina tried to use its final chance. But this is a game. We can plan, speak to our footballers clever things, voice brave and reasonable ideas, but on the pitch practically all depends on players. My guys showed everybody what they can reach if they want. Obviously that was one of our best matches. I believe it is not the last one. That was not CSKA farewell party. I am sure we will go on following our own way to fly higher and higher.
