Gatorade Futsal League Action

The Gatorade Futsal Bahamas League action continued on Wednesday, June 29, 2005 with a full series of games at the D.W. Davis Gymnasium. All of the teams were in action once again, and all with a view to improve or solidify their positions in the tables. The first match of the night saw the BFA Select take on United Kickers. Having won their last game, United felth this match would give them an opportunity to move ahead in the standings, but the BFA Select team showed that they were not going to be easy opposition. Down 4-2 at the half, the BFA Select improved their pace and performance and got some timely goals to level the score. Only the post and some fine goalkeeping from Tom McDermott kept United in this match, and the final score ended up 7-7. Trevor McKenzie continued his goalscoring form for United, netting 4 times, and 1 each from Granton Innis, Ricardo Bowe and Derek Bennett finished off the scoring for United. Lionel Haven scored 5 times for the BFA Select, and Anton Sealey and Tony Singh each netted once to earn the draw. The second match of the night proved to be the most exciting, as well as the most heated. Cavalier FC took on Union Peru in a battle for position in the tables, each having won one and lost one in their previous outings. Cavalier took an early lead in the match and seemed to have everything in control with a 3-1 half-time lead. But a strong showing from Union Peru resulted in 4 second half goals and the victory, as Cavalier could only add 2 more to their tally. Marco Vidales got 3 goals in the 5-3 win, and Saul Martinez added 2 more. Cavalier's goals came from Kevin Davies (2) and Vandyke Bethel (1). The final match of the night saw league leaders Superior Warriors take on Bears FC. This one was always going to be one-way traffic, but the Bears did give a valiant effort for their part. 8-2 was the final score, with the victory going to the Warriors, their third consecutive victory, leaving them as the only undefeated team in the league. Steve Jones netted 4 times, Rodney Bascome added 3 more and Keith Cargill one for the Warriors scoring on the night. Terry Girling and Craig Knowles both scored one each for the Bears in reply. BFA Gatorade Futsal League Underway

The BFA (Bahamas Football Association) Gatorade Futsal League commenced last Wednesday at the DW Davis Gymnasium with six teams registered to participate in the inaugural competition. Structured for player’s 35 and Over, the league will play matches every Wednesday night with the first commencing at 6:30 pm. Two rounds of games have been played to date and if these are any indication of the rest of the season, it looks to be an interesting and exciting one. In the opening week, Cavalier FC took on Superior Warriors in a hotly contested match that went from end to end. Eventually, the Warriors emerged winners in this match 6-5, getting the league off to a highly competitive start. In the second match of the first round, Union Peru scored earl and often against United FC, and ran away winners by a score of 18-3. The second week of action saw the implementation of ceremonial openings to the matches, with teams marching out to the FIFA anthem and lining up for the Bahamian national anthem, Hand shakes and well-wishes before and after the match were also implemented to keep a friendly yet competitive atmosphere. The opening match this night saw United FC take on, and defeat Bears FC by a score of 11-3. This allowed United extract some form of revenge for their loss the week before. The second match of the night saw Cavalier FC take on the BFA Select. The BFA Select team is comprised of Executives of the federation and national staff coaches, and the team held their own against Cavalier. Cavalier prevailed to win by a score of 11-10 in the closely contested match. The final match of the second week saw Union Peru take on Superior Warriors in a battle of the two winners from the first week of action. The Warriors were the sharper of the two, winning by a score of 6-3 over the Peruvians. The action will continue this coming Wednesday, June 29, 2005 with three matches on tap. In the first, at 6:30 pm, the BFA Select will take on United FC, followed by Cavalier FC versus Union Peru at 7:20 pm and Superior Warriors against Bears FC at 8:10 pm.
