officially added to the 2007 Pan American Games to be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from 13-29 July. The decision to include Futsal for the first time is subject to FIFA providing a proposal for the organization of the discipline in the games.
The announcement was made during the ODEPA (Organización Deportivo Panamericana) Executive Committee Meeting on 28 August in Rio de Janeiro that Futsal has been added to the over 30 existing sports (including men's and women's football) that will take place at the
15th Pan American Games.
Futsal has rapidly grown in popularity throughout the western hemisphere and in the CONCACAF region as record 17 National Associations entered the 2004 CONCACAF Futsal Qualification for the FIFA World Championships compared to only eight four years earlier.
