SIDEKICKS CLINCH WISL PLAYOFF BERTH WITH BACK-TO-BACK WINS With one week remaining in the 2001 regular season, the Dallas Sidekicks of the World Indoor Soccer League (WISL) clinch a playoff berth with a 13-9 overall record after posting back-to-back victories on Nov 23-24. After shutting out the visiting Sacramento Knights (11-11) by a 6-0 score on Nov. 23, the Sidekicks earned a spot in the 2001 WISL post-season with a 6-4 victory over the host San Diego Sockers (12-9) the next day. In other WISL games, the Utah Freezz (9-13) posted a 3-2 win over the host Sockers on Nov. 25, while the visiting Knights defeated the St. Louis Steamers (9-12) 6-3. The 2001 regular season concludes this weekend (Nov. 30 - Dec 2) as the remaining four teams battle for the final three WISL playoff spots. The best-of-three semifinals begin on Dec. 7, with the winners advancing to the 2001 championship final series (best-of-three) on Dec. 14. For more information check the WISL website at www.wisl.net.
KIXX DROP TWO IN A ROW, BUT REMAIN IN FIRST-PLACE IN MISL STANDINGS After winning their first five matches of the 2001-02 Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) campaign, the Philadelphia Kixx dropped two straight last week for a 5-2 overall ledger. The Kixx remain in first-place in the MISL standings as the squad lost 9-2 to the host Harrisburg Heat (5-3) on Nov. 21, and then dropped a 10-4 decision to the visiting Cleveland Crunch (3-6) on Nov. 24. In other MISL games, the Milwaukee Wave (5-2) and Kansas City Comets (3-7) split a two-game series as the host Comets won the opener 9-7 on Nov. 23, but the Wave took the second match 27-16 in Nashville, Tenn. the next day. The Heat scored two consecutive victories as they defeated the host Crunch 17-13 on Nov. 23, and then topped the visiting Baltimore Blast (4-5) the next day. U.S. FUTSAL PLAYERS SHINE IN WAVE-COMETS ENCOUNTER Several U.S. Futsal National Team players shined in the MISL match between the Milwaukee Wave and the Kansas City Comets in Nashville, Tenn. on Nov. 24. The Wave posted a 27-16 victory over the Comets with U.S. forward Todd Dusosky (1 goal, 5 caps) notching a hat trick, while veteran goalkeeper Victor Nogueira (16 caps) earned 11 saves to preserve the win. Forward Matt Tirschman (3 goals, 5 caps) and defender Glenn Carbonara (3 goals, 12 caps) also added to the Wave's scoring, while forward Wes Wade (9 goals, 13 caps) tallied a hat trick in the loss for the Comets.
