29.09.2005 Hellenic Championship Drawby Courtesy:
Futsal HellasYesterday saw the drawing for this year’s Hellenic 1st Division
Championship. The drawing was held in good spirit as the league has begun a very promising year despite another scandalous decision which was made known during the drawing. Doukas who is one of the founding members of Futsal in Hellas, will not be allowed to participate in this year’s Championship due to a legal dispute with the Hellenic Federation. As a result the Federation decided to promote another team from the second division and fully disqualify Doukas. The news came as a surprise to everyone and will certainty affect both the Championship and the National Team. It seems the Federation is not willing to burry the hatchet and will continue to go its own way. Unfortunately the teams have to overcome this decision and continue to play in order to keep the sport alive. As for Doukas, team officials are frustrated with the decision and have vowed to pursue justice any way they can. The opening round does not entail any major derbies but will see many tough contests. Athina ’90 will play away at Kosmos in a risky game, and Platon will travel to Iniohos. Ethnikos Asteras will host Minotavros and Dias Ilioupolis will host newcomer Salamina. Ermis Koridalou the other promoted team to the first division will face the team that will be promoted from the 2nd Division due to the sudden dismissal of Doukas.
Two teams have requested change of dates due to international contests. Athina ’90 will not play in the 3rd round (24 October) due to their participation in the UEFA Futsal Cup. Furthermore Platon has requested to postpone their game for the 7th round due to their participation in the 2005 Recopa Cup to be held in Spain. Both teams will represent Hellas this year and the futsal community is eager to see how they perform at such a high level.
