RUSSIAN SUPERLEAGUE

ROUND 3

WHEN POINTS DO NOT COME…

text by Vladimir Romanov

After the beginning of the Championship CSKA lost three matches in a row. The first defeat took place in round 1 against Dina Moscow. The other two against Dinamo, the current Champion of Russia. At the moment the Red Army team is at the bottom of the tournament table. Soon it will play against Spartak Moscow. There will be a moment to take points at all costs.

MATCH 1

Nothing promised CSKA a failure. The greatest part of the match didn't show the real distance of personal skills or common team levels between the red and blue and the blue and white. Twice the hosts led the score. At minute 33 there was a “2-2” on the CSKA hall-screen. Suddenly Kobzar scored. His goal was smart for Dinamo and rather foolish for CSKA. The Red Army keeper, Oleg Tolstikhin, closed “his angle”. The ball “found a hole” between Oleg's left leg and a post. Then disaster came into the CSKA Kingdom. For five minutes and a half the hosts missed four goals. The Dinamo advantage was materialized. But it would have never happened if CSKA players had not lost balls in simple situations.

Alexander Babkin (CSKA head coach):
- For 34 minutes we played right. For 34 minutes there was a battle of equal sides. But then CSKA missed the third goal which looked rather stupid and illogical. That goal “killed” my team. Then we missed much more… Unfortunately, our guys wanted to save the match immediately and each of them believed he was a savior. Dinamo is a team that never forgives any mistakes. Every time the blue and white punished us severely. I am really sad. One part and a half CSKA did not face defeat danger. But the final part of the match was absolutely failed.

MATCH 2

Many things changed in 24 hours. CSKA played better in defense. As for the attacks, most of them were positional (the rhythm of playing was quite slow). We can't say the red and blue put a logical end to any of their combination. But some real goal occasions came out. Pavel Stepanov, Dinamo keeper (the match day coincided with his birthday), made several good saves.
In the second part “red-blue warriors” came close to a draw after M. Filippov's goal. Maxim spent just the second match for a new team. He came from Spartak-Shelkovo and was put to the second line by A. Babkin. To score one goal was not enough to save even a point. At 1'49'' to the end the fifth field player (that was V. Kolesnikov) came on to the pitch. With no effect… Keeping the ball for a minute the hosts could not make the final blow. Then Serguei Antipov lost the ball. The long shot by Rakhimov was mortal. The ball flew into the empty space.

Alexander Babkin (CSKA head coach):
- We played better than yesterday. We had no failed periods in the match. The defensive line looked tenser. Dinamo had got a little advantage. But I do not think it brought such a result. The referees helped the opponents. I pay attention on two episodes. At minute 26 Pelè Junior hit Serguei Antipov with an elbow. Except referees everybody saw this. However, the match went on. Some seconds later Maevsky scored the second goal. At minute 38 Kelson pushed Kolesnikov to the back. Vladimir fell. The incident occurred within the goalkeeper area. One more foul? Yellow card for Kelson? Maybe penalty? Nothing. I don't want to be misunderstood. I don't ask to help CSKA. We need no any kind of referees' assistance. Just take right decisions and nothing else. If a foul is obvious, give a whistle! I thanked my guys for the match. I said to them – “ If you play as well as today, points will come for us”.
