UEFA.comCharleroi confirm their progressFriday, 14 October 2005Action 21 Charleroi have made it through to the 2005/06 UEFA Futsal Cup second qualifying round although they did not have things entirely their own way.
Bright start The defending European champions from Belgium began brightly with a 7-3 win against FK Nautara Kaunas of Lithuania in Tuesday's Group 6 mini-tournament opener. On the same day, Polish hosts Clearex Chórzow achieved a 4-1 success against Georgian contenders Iberia 2003 Tbilisi.
Late goal required In Wednesday's second round of action, Chórzow romped to a 5-0 victory over Kaunas while Charleroi had no problems rattling up an 8-1 win against Iberia. That set up tonight's thriller between hosts and holders. It was 1-1 at half-time but Charleroi needed a late goal from Alex to clinch a narrow 3-2 success against Chórzow and confirm top spot.
Dinamo repeat Charleroi now join MFK Dinamo Moskva, the team they beat in the 2004/05 final, in Group B of the second qualifying round to be played early next year. Two more places are up for grabs in that four-team section, with the top two from that pool ultimately going on to the semi-finals, where they will meet the first and second-placed sides from Group A.
