RUSSIAN SUPERLEAGUE

ROUND 4

TOTAL COINCIDENCE

text by Vladimir Romanov

Two draws with the same score – 4:4… This is the result of two days battle between ancient opponents CSKA and Spartak. No doubt, both sides relied on victories and more points. Logically, on the first day CSKA was much closer to success than Spartak. On the second day everything changed, Spartak was about to win. But as in the first match of round 4, the draw was made at minute 40.

MATCH 1

On November, 2003 (about two years ago) Spartak played vs Dina in Moscow. It was the first Super-League Championship in the Russian Futsal history. The fact is unbelievable but it is true – Dina and Spartak took two points because of two draws with the equal final result – 4:4. As for the score running, we should consider that two years ago on the first tour day Dina missed its victory in the last seconds of the game; on the following day little disaster happened to the red and white machine, it missed the decisive goal right before the final siren…
As for round 4 derby between CSKA and Spartak we faced the total coincidence of statistic data. The same scores, points, development of match events. The things remained the same. The ancient story came back. The only difference is that CSKA took the place of Dina.
On October, 14 Red Army team played the best match it had ever played from the beginning of the season. It obviously deserved three points. But a lot of goal chances flew into nowhere. Fortune left CSKA captain Alexander Antipov who was to score four times at least. His brother Serguei looked luckier. At minute 33 he made Spartak lose the game. For six minutes and a half the screen-table did not fix any score changes. CSKA fans did not control their emotions, they began celebrating a victory over “the main enemy”. At that time the guests attacked with five field players. The hosts could score some more times, because there was no keeper, the target was open. CSKA guys missed it. The Spartak blow was practically mortal. At 25 seconds to the end Gennady Ionov, ex-CSKA player, scored a draw goal. So, Spartak saved one point. Meanwhile Red Army team lost two. And that was not a moment of bad destiny. It happened through its own fault.

Alexander Babkin, head coach:

- I would like to divide the match into two parts. In the first one there was our advantage. We should have scored much more goals than just one. 1:1 – is a wrong score, it was not right that we left the pitch with a draw in no one's hands. Then you saw everything with your own eyes: one team scored, the other one was after it… As a result we got a final draw. If we had not missed our goal opportunities before interval we would have won. I'm sure of it. I am satisfied with the activities of the second line. Three out of four goals were made by the players of the second quartet. The line-up became stable. That is the main reason. Unfortunately, and it happens seldom, that was not a good day for CSKA first line and especially for the Antipov brothers. Not a bit of luck to the twins…

MATCH 2

That was a moment of glory for one man. We mean Serjao, Spartak Brazilian international. At present he is the best scorer of Russian Super-League with 12 goals. On October, 15 Serjao did all for Spartak triumph. He scored three goals. It seemed to be an excellent personal result. CSKA was after Spartak with two goals. It is great difference for such matches. The hosts had little time for salvation.
Alexander Babkin, CSKA head coach, had to take a time-out. He made his guys run forward without playing in defense. Babkin had no choice but to risk. Suddenly the score difference diminished. After the first CSKA attack Vlacheslav Moskalenko touched the ball which flew into the net.
At the last minute Red Army forward Serguei Sergueev fell down on the pitch. That was the sixth Spartak foul. The measure of execution looked clear – double-penalty. Sergueev made a strong blow. The ball jumped into the net. CSKA got one point.

Alexander Babkin, head coach:

- Today I have got such feelings as Evgeny Lovchev yesterday. Both CSKA and Spartak followed their own tactics schemes. We had analyzed Serjao's mode of playing. We tried to block him. With no effect because he scored three goals. During the match we lost 2:4… I must thank my guys. They did not lose control over themselves, kept their patience and saved the match.
