Futsal International Friendlies
15 & 16 November 2005Kaunas, Lithuania
England Futsal Coach Graeme Dell has called up last year's FA Cup Player of the First Round for his side's trip to Lithuania next month.
Alex Haddow, who tormented Walsall’s defence and set up Slough Town’s second goal in their 2–1 win last November, is in the 14-man squad for their first outing of this season.
The 23-year-old left Slough towards the end of last season and moved to Eastleigh. Currently on-loan at Salisbury he has made some impressive displays and earns his first international call-up for the friendly double-header.
Dell will be looking for his players to show continuity in their development after impressive performances against the professionals of Poland at the London Docklands Excel Arena in July.
However, he will be without the experience of Alex Sykes, Marek Szmid and Richard Follett who are all injured. A second call up for Glen Harris after a solid debut against Poland will have to be put on ice as he also joins them on the injury list.
Former Derby County scholar Michael Lyons also comes in for his first cap at this level and will re-acquaint himself with Anthony Allman; the pair having last played together at England youth team level during their time at The FA’s Lilleshall National School.
Now Dell is hoping his side can carry on from positive displays against Poland in July.
"We have shown in the performances against Poland that we have made good progress at the game to a point where we can now compete with the teams in the rankings directly above us," said Dell.
"These two matches against Lithuania should be within our reach despite their higher ranking although it will require continued improvement in our consistency.
"Whilst we are losing a lot of experience through injury it’s a great chance for the other lads on our F30 programme to provide us with our first win and demonstrate that they should be first choices in our line up and that’s exactly what this programme is aimed at ."
England’s first game will take place in the Sporthalle S.Darius in Kaunas on Tuesday 15 November at 7.00pm with the second match the following night in the Sporthalle S.Girenas also at 7.00pm.
