RUSSIAN SUPERLEAGUE

ROUND 6

ONE STEP UP

text by Vladimir Romanov

Within the framework of round 6 CSKA played against Arbat at USZ Drughba, one more Moscow hall where, besides Arbat, Dinamo and Spartak hold their home matches. Two days battle ended in a score. The opponents divided points, three for Arbat and three for CSKA. The latest results helped the Red Army team to take the eighth position in the table.

MATCH 1

November 4th was not a red-blue day. It looked like Babkin's team held the worst match of the season. It played too slowly. It seemed to be a sleeping warrior and only something terrible could awake it. CSKA began playing faster and angrier after the third ball had flown into the net. At minute 32 A. Kovalev, CSKA Ukrainian international, scored a beautiful goal, typical of soccer. The ball was flying to the far post. Artem jumped and falling touched it with his head. The ball fell down behind a goal line. But that was just a fragment of the game, one of different opportunities to save the match.
As for Arbat goals, all of them were created by… red-blue guys. In the first part Miroshnichenko's shot let Arbat lead a score. The ball was within the CSKA goalkeeper area. Oleg Maltsev sent it away, but the ball “was caught” by Miroshnichenko who made a slight blow. Tolstikhin could not resist it. In the second part Marat Azizov, young CSKA player, lost the ball on the left side of the ground. As a result, Yakimov rushed to the opponents goalkeeper and sent the ball right to the net. The last goal missed by the guests was a matter of personal skills of Pula, Arbat Brazilian international.
What did CSKA do to neutralize the hosts advantage? Babkin's players moved much faster, attacked with five field players but Arbat's arguments both in defense and in offensive line looked stronger.

Alexander Babkin, CSKA head coach:
"Arbat came on to the pitch to win at all costs. We came on to the pitch just to win. That is the difference between two teams in this match. Unfortunately, the CSKA players had no enough motivation. Or desire… After the first matches in the Championship when we faced the leaders of the Russian Futsal they thought the games against Arbat would be easier. This point of view is wrong."

MATCH 2

On the following day CSKA played with much desire. Its keeper Tolstikhin spent his time with great profit to his team. Thanks to his saves the Red Army team won though the opponents had the same chances to double their success. The CSKA first line looked poor again. The Antipov brothers tried to score at any distance but most of their shots were not well prepared. Another man from this quartet is Kirill Arsh. Usually that's a very dangerous striker. But since September he has not been playing at his best because of a “frozen” injury. The right knee has troubled him for long. As for one more player – Oleg Maltsev, CSKA defender, - he does his work well but because of his defensive functions he is not a gun to shoot.
The leading line was the second line – Somkhishvili, Kolesnikov, Sergueev and Filippov. Kolesnikov crushed the goal with a blow into the empty net. Filippov received a brilliant pass from Kolesnikov and scored standing with his back towards Levin, Arbat keeper. Kalinin and Kovalev, traditional Babkin's reserve, went on to the pith after 10 minutes pause between match parts. They helped his partners to protect a really satisfied score for CSKA which got the second victory in the Championship after the damned series of six games without three points.

Alexander Babkin, CSKA head coach:
"I am satisfied with the result. I had to make one change in the line-up: Somkhishvili was put into the second quartet instead of Azizov that a day before had made some awful mistakes. The CSKA second line resisted the Arbat first one successfully. The only goal scored by opponents was missed when there was the first CSKA line on the pitch. I also sent Tolstikhin to play. My choice was right. Oleg really saved us. As for the playing of the first line I understand it does not deserve excellent marks. I have to recognize our leaders have got some little injuries. That is why their state is far from good."
