RIZWAN REHMATBANGKOK: Lacking in experience and versatility that is needed to win matches at international level, Qatar yesterday went down to in-form Kyrgyzstan in their futsal clash at the First Asian Indoor Games here in the Thai capital.
Qatar yesterday began their campaign on a faltering note, losing the match 5-2 against their opponents, who registered their second successive win in the week-long event.
Qatar are one of eight teams participating in the Games after the late withdrawals of Iraq and the Philippines. Macau, Kuwait, China, Jordan, Iran and hosts Thailand are the other countries taking part in the futsal event besides Qatar, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan.
Iran, China and Macau are in Group ‘A’ while Thailand and Kuwait are in Group ‘B’. Qatar are in Group ‘C’ along with Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan.
Playing with the nervousness of a first-timer, Qatar lost the match in the first five minutes when they conceded three goals to the superior dribbling skills of Kyrgyzstan players.
For Kyrgyzstan, who beat Uzbekistan 6-2 in their first match on Thursday, Djetbaev Nurjan was the star performer with a hat-trick. The other two goals were scored by Ryskulov Ulan and Pilipas Evgenii (second half). For Qatar, Abdulla Ali and Mohammed Ahmed reduced the margin with two first-half strikes.
