FUTSAL: Kelantan to field project squad

Dec 21:

KELANTAN will field their project squad for the inaugural Celcom National Futsal League, beginning on Jan 6.

Since the introduction of the sport, the FA of Malaysia (FAM) is allowing a maximum of three teams per state to compete in the top league.

Kelantan is the only state to field their selection for the tournament instead of offering private clubs to accept the challenge.

“By just allowing the best team in town, separating the best players evenly among three teams would give us a better and fairer chance to make the second round,” said Kelantan’s team manager Ahmad Yusof at the launch of the tournament at the Titiwangsa Stadium yesterday.

Kelantan have fielded three teams (A,B and C) for the tournament.

Ahmad said by testing all three selection squads, KFA would be able to gauge their team’s standard.

Kelantan is grouped with Pahang, Terengganu and Malay Football Association in the eastern zone.

FAM held the group draws for all four zonal competitions yesterday.

Present to witness the event was FAM secretary General Datuk Seri Dr Ibrahim Saad and representatives from the 33 competing teams.

A total of 66 matches will be played in each zone in the first phase of the tournament.

Matches will be played on Sundays at Titiwangsa Stadium for the Central Zone, Sports Planet Penang (Northern Zone), Sukpa, Kuantan (Eastern Zone), and at Johor Baru City Hall (Southern Zone).

The four top clubs from each zone will qualify for the second phase, which is the National Club Championship (NCC).
