RUSSIAN SUPERLEAGUE

ROUND 10

THE CHAIN IS CUT OFF

In round 10, the last before New Year holidays, CSKA cut off the chain of six lost matches (five in the Championship, one in the national cup semifinal).
That happened on the second day of the tenth round, while at the end of the first match the red and blue team obtained again no points at all.

MATCH 1

For the first twenty minutes the hosts and their opponents had slept. It is necessary to say they attacked a little having few goal chances, trying to defend the keeper zones from deep penetration of the forwards. As a result of that choice, no team scored a goal.
Then things, as usual, changed. Attacking at high speed the opponents could not help scoring. CSKA was at its best in creating changes to score, but without obtaining the same brilliant results in realize a goal. For about five minutes the Moscow team found itself in very
difficult position: four goals to score to neutralize TTG advantage which came out of nowhere.
But the only answer was given by Kirill Arsh who just decreased the score difference for one goal.

Alexander Babkin, CSKA head coach:

"Our team faced certain problems before round 10. For this match we lost three defenders: Kolesnikov and Kalinin were suspended, Maltsev could not play because of injury. So today CSKA has acted on the pitch without defenders. It brought its bad effect in
the second part of the second half. People that looked rather tired have no some skills to play in defense. We attacked much and dangerously. A lot of opportunities to score were missed. The players who act within the framework of the Super-League Championship are
to turn such attacking combinations into goals. And when you don't make goals, you miss them and lose".

MATCH 2

Alexander Babkin, CSKA head coach, tried to make things better. CSKA started the second match of round 10 with the Antipov brothers on the bench. Serguei and Alexander came on the pitch at minutes 12 and 13. The decision to use the brothers in the game was right. With their
appearance on the ground the Red-Army team moved faster and held some “clever” attacks. At last brother Alexander scored putting an end to his long period without goals that had lasted five matches. At the beginning of the second half a smart shot made by Arsh led CSKA
fans believe that their team would leave the hall with three points. However, the task to win had not been done yet. Sooner TTG minimized the score difference. Thanks to D. Kalinin's ride to TTG keeper zone and a “delicious” shot to the left angle CSKA kept its advantage.
Then the TTG head coach asked for a time-out. He had to change something, hoping his guys were able to equalize the score. But the step he held was radical. Former CSKA captain (now he is TTG-JAVA captain) Alexander Kopeikin started acting as the fifth field player.
The guests held a lot of positional, very slow and not dangerous attacks bringing a “zero” effect. So, CSKA won but the question on the team crisis is still open.

Alexander Babkin, CSKA head coach:

"This disaster of six lost matches was going to end one day. I am satisfied because this damned series is over now, right on the eve of New Year. Today we have seen two tired teams. Yesterday luck was on TTG side, one day later – on our side. The first goal scored by CSKA was a key to the victory. Before the 10 minutes interval we led the score. Analyzing this tour totally I should state that the general result – three points for each team – is logical".
