BernamaFAM Wants All States To Establish Futsal TeamsKUALA LUMPUR, Jan 6 (Bernama) -- The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) wants to ensure that from next year all states have their own team for the Malaysian FAM Futsal League.
FAM's Secretary General Datuk Seri Dr Ibrahim Saad said only a few state teams are taking part in the inaugural FAM Futsal League with most of the participants being club teams.
"When more teams participate, we (FAM) will have a big pool of players to be absorbed into the national futsal team," said Ibrahim after the launch of the Malaysian FAM Futsal League here, Friday.
The launch was held jointly with the sponsor, Celcom Malaysia Berhad. The company's CEO Datuk Shazalli Ramly was also present.
Out of the 33 teams taking part in the futsal league, there is only three state teams - Penang, Kelantan and Pahang.
He also said anyone interested in organising futsal must obtain FAM's sanction beforehand to ensure the court is according to specifications and the match is conducted according to the regulations set by Federation of International Football Associations (Fifa).
The FAM Fustal League is divided into four zones with the initial matches beginning today would continue until Sunday (Jan 8) simultenously in all four zones.
The two top teams in each zone would move to the final round of eight matches and the league winner would receive a cash prize of RM25,000 while the second and the third runner-up would receive RM15,000 and RM5,000 respectively.
