FUTSAL: City Council, Penang FA are northern zone reps

ALOR STAR CITY COUNCIL defeated UiTM Perlis 6-1 while Penang FA defeated Bagan United 5-1 in the inaugural Celcom Futsal Malaysia 2005-06 northern zone league semi-finals at the Safira Sports Planet complex yesterday.

Both the winning teams will represent the northern zone in the National Championship Club competition which will be held in four circuits between Jan 20 and Mac 26.

Alor Star CC coach cum player Mohd Shukeri Hassan said although his team is made up of many senior players their target to qualify for the final round was justified.

He said they have to prepare seriously for the national competition which is totally a different ball game.

Mohd Shukeri said it is easy to get the players for training as they worked with Alor Star City Council and are committed.

Penang FA coach Chiew Chun Yong said qualifying for the national circuit was moving in the right direction.

“My players played well but we have to improve tremendously if we want to succeed at national level,” said Chun Yong.

“Most of our opponents in this tournament did not have much experience playing in such competitions which made things easy for us.

“Most of us have been playing together for about six years and are confident of matching our opponents at the national level.”
