Futsal/Celcom League: MPSJ striving to be among top three

by GHAZ RAMLI

Jan 31

SUBANG JAYA MUNICIPAL COUNCIL (MPSJ) manager Radzi Arshad is pleased with his side’s chances even without stalwart Jerry Pereira in attack for the inaugural Celcom National Futsal League tournament.

Eight teams, including MPSJ are currently preparing for the second leg of the Celcom National Futsal League circuit which will be held on Feb 20 at Sukpa, Kuantan.

“He is our key player up front but the team have learnt to play without him as I believe the team will stil be able to put up a challenge for the title,” said Radzi.

He said skipper Mohd Zary Ariffin has been working harder in the absence of Pareira who injured his left knee during the Central zone group matches at the Titiwangsa Stadium on Jan 6.

“We haven't had a replacement striker for Jerry but in Johor the team proved to be a stronger side without him,” said Radzi.

Due to the injury, the ex-Waikiki FC player may be out until next month.

Last weekend, MPSJ finished second behind Alor Star Municipal Council (MPAS) in the first leg which was held at the Johor Baru Municipal Council (MPJB).

“We go to Kuantan without pressure to win and we are confident of finishing among the top three,” added Radzi.

Winners of each circuit gets five points, runners up, four points while third place teams get three points.

After Kuantan, the third leg will be played in Penang while the final circuit will be played at the Titiwangsa Stadium in Kuala Lumpur on Mar 5.

The winners walk away with RM25,000, the second place team ges RM15,000 while third place win RM10,000.
