Futsal groups promise exciting finals

Wednesday, 1 February 2006

Two places in the UEFA Futsal Cup semi-finals are up for grabs tonight as the two second qualifying round groups conclude.

Benfica or Kairat
The 2004 winners Boomerang Intervių have already claimed first place in Group A in Lisbon having won both of their games, and tonight tackle an SL Benfica (22.00CET) side looking to qualify themselves with a victory in a rematch of the 2004 final. Should either Kairat Almaty or Cristal Noir MB Morlanwelz win the first match two hours earlier, they would go through ahead of Benfica as long as Boomerang avoid defeat. If the first game is drawn and Benfica lose, it will go to a three-way head-to-head which would favour either Kairat or the Portuguese champions.

Dinamo need a point
Group B in Belgrade is slightly clearer: FC Shakhtar Donetsk are through but holders Action 21 Charleroi cannot make the last four. Last season's runners-up MFK Dinamo Moskva are second, three points ahead of pool hosts KMF Marbo Beograd. If Dinamo beat Shakhtar in the first game, they finish top ahead of the Ukrainian champions, with the positions reversed should they draw. However, if Dinamo lose than Beograd can pip them with a win against Charleroi, but they must also improve their goal difference as it is five worse than Dinamo's.
