Uzbekistan to host futsal tournament

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) officially announced on Monday the regional futsal (indoor football) championships will be held May 21-28 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

Organisers already filled 13 out of 16 berths for the 13 teams' superior performances in last year's championships. Ten teams will compete in two groups for the three final berths. Vietnam will play against Maldives, Malaysia, Cambodia and Turkmenistan in Malaysia. This qualifying round schedule is not final.

In the other group, South Korea, Macao, Hong Kong, North Korea and Australia will compete in Macao from April 11-13.

The Vietnam Football Federation has chosen the HCM City Football Federation's team to represent the country in the tournament.

HCM City federation's general secretary Tran Van Mui said the national futsal team would comprise the most talented players. A tournament set for late March in the city's Phu Tho Gymnasium and District 6 Sports Centre.

Last year, host Vietnam finished empty-handed even with the support of two former football players Nguyen Hong Son and Nguyen Tuan Thanh. Vietnam played six matches with two wins, one draw and three losses.
