Hellenic Championship Season Recap

The regular season was completed on Monday in the Hellenic 1st Div. Athina ’90, Platon, Doukas, and Ethnikos Asteras will fight in the top-four tournament that will determine this year’s champion.

Athina ’90 (17wins, 2 draws, 3 losses) was the better organized team and managed to cruise through the year without much stress.
Platon (17 wins, 1 draw, 4 losses) proved to be very consistent in their performance and had no trouble reaching this year’s play-offs.
Doukas managed to enter the play-offs even though they entered the championship late as they managed to win the key matches they needed.
Ethnikos Asteras saw a lot of resistance from 5th runner up Kosmos but relied on their experience to secure the fourth qualifying position.
All four teams seem to have what it takes to claim the title so it remains upon them to prove their strength in the field next month. Games are set to begin on the 20th of March.

Kosmos VP will have to settle with fifth place as their impressive second round efforts did not have the expected outcome. Kosmos performed very well this season and managed to win points from all the top opponents but lost important points against smaller teams like Ermis and Olimpiada. Nevertheless Kosmos showed they will be a force for the future. Dias was left back in sixth place completing a frustrating year that did not go as planned.
Iniohos was left in seventh place performing in the same way as the year before. Salamina ended a sensational year in eighth place even though they were fresh in the league. The rookies played well and challenged every game. The team will certainly see progress in the future. The teams from fifth to eighth place will play a mini tournament to establish their final position in the league. In ninth and tenth place Ermis and Minotavros will have to work harder to avoid this kind of stress next year. Their season is completed prematurely.

The final day also saw Olimpiada and Paneleusiniaki relegated as they both did not manage to stay consistent and prove themselves in the top league. Both of these teams were new in the league and did not have the necessary tools to make it through. This proved detrimental as they both lacked the experience they needed to challenge their opponents.
