UEFABoomerang shine in DonetskSaturday, 11 March 2006Boomerang Interviú were commanding 6-1 winners in the first leg of their UEFA Futsal Cup semi-final at FC Shakhtar Donetsk.
Brothers on targetThe Spanish champions had to wait nine minutes for the opener but never looked back once Joan had found the net. Two further goals from Andreu, Joan's twin brother, and then one apiece for Marquinho and Neto made it five before Joan finished what he started, meaning Boomerang, who host the return on 25 March, are on the verge of a place in the final against either MFK Dinamo Moskva or Kairat Almaty, with Dinamo holding a 3-0 lead from their first encounter.
Schumacher driveIt was Brazilian international Schumacher who created Boomerang's breakthrough. He tore down the left wing before laying off for Joan, the forward who struck eleven goals for Playas de Castellón when they won the very first staging of this competition in 2001/02. Three minutes later, Andreu made it two by slotting past Vladislav Korneev for Boomerang's second.
Superb finishThe Ukrainian title-holders were penned into in their own half, as Boomerang continued their onslaught. On 20 minutes, it was Andreu in the spotlight again, finishing off a brilliant passing move with a superb lob over Korneev. Shakhtar showed their mettle at the start of the second half, when Luis Amado was forced to block a ball which then fell into the path of Serhiy Zadorozhniy. However, the Spain No1 was back into action quickly as he cleared before the striker could unleash a shot. On 30 minutes, Boomerang punished Shakhtar for a defensive lapse after a corner; Marquinho capitalising in the penalty box.
Sytin consolationAfter allowing four goals, Shakhtar were finding it hard to keep their composure and soon conceded again. On 34 minutes, Neto took advantage of a one on one against Korneev, and Joan made it 6-0 seconds later, connecting with a cross at a far post. After accumulating such a significant advantage, the Spanish side naturally sat back. Serhiy Sytin gave the home crowd something to cheer about with three minutes remaining, as the Ukrainian international found the net from long range. Yevgen Yunakov had further opportunities to score, but it was clearly not Shakhtar's night in Donetsk.
