MPSJ can rise to the occasion

GHAZ RAMLI

March 21:

DESPITE finishing third in the third circuit of the National Futsal League two weeks ago, Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) manager Radzi Arshad is confident his team will rise to the occasion in the nextl circuit at Titiwangsa Stadium in Kuala Lumpur next week.

MPSJ qualified having amassed 12 points, including the three which they got in the last circuit at SportsPlanet in Seberang Prai.

“Although we may be without skipper Zary Affendi and key player S. Tayalan, both of whom are injured, I’m happy with the team’s current performance,” said Radzi.

Meanwhile, Kuala Lumpur City Hall’s (DBKL) qualification came as a surprise, even to their skipper Adi Azuan Zainal.

Despite having a slim chance o winning the RM25,000 prize money, the 26-year-old striker is confident his team will offer stiff resistance to their opponents.

"The team were assembled just a few weeks before the tournament started. Beside midfielder Mohamad Fairuz and myself, the other players are from DBKL’s football team and have not played much futsal,” said Adi.

“We may have gone through the circuit with some luck but the team have improved a lot after the first circuit and ‘'m confident of a better placing.”

AOB Teras Selatan will be joining MPSJ after collecting 11 points.

Meanwhile, third circuit champions Penang will be in a class of their own after edging AOB Teras Selatan 11-10 on March 12.

Penang will start as one of the favourites when they vie with six other teams for the remaining two semi-final spots next week
