Athina ’90 started the play-offs with a tough win against the feisty Platon squad 3-1. The game was not very good in level as both squads seemed somewhat stressed to keep a solid defense line. Athina proved more competent and managed to get ahead in the score to maintain it up until the end. Platon seemed a bit hesitant in the offense as they did not manage to contest the Athina defense much and got too nervous towards capitalizing their opportunities.
There was much controversy regarding the referees who managed to influence the game with their ambiguous calls. Platon’s captain Lefteris Kouvaras was sent off after arguing with an opponent while the game had many controversial calls.
Platon squad was also missing their leading man though as head Coach Dimitri Nicolaou was not able to coach the team due to personal reasons. The team was managed by assistant coach Vasilis Iglezakis who sat on the bench for the first time tonight.
Athina ’90 now leads the table with 3 points and will wait for the other match between Doukas and Asteras on Thursday to see who will join them at the top.
