29/05/2002 Queensland F.A. Newsletter
OFFICIAL NEWSLETTER OF QUEENSLAND FUTSAL ASSOCIATION INC.
I’VE BEEN AWAY My apologies to all our readers but as some are aware I led the tour to Brazil and the USA. Unfortunately I couldn’t send the newsletter from my laptop so I instead wrote articles to the website. For all the news of the tour click into www.qldfutsal.com.au.
DETAILS ON THE BRAZIL TOUR The Brazil tour was to me a great success (if you forget about the trouble we had with the airline company) and Mauricio is to be congratulated for the tour organization. I think with a little more time in RIO the next tour will be even better. The USA component was probably a bit of a let down after the excitement of Brazil, and next year I think we will instead stay in Brazil and play in the MINAS CUP competition instead.
HOW’S MAURICIO AND FRIENDS For those who have been to Centre Of Excellence before, many of the same coaches were there again. Farighna took the girls team and Joelsio the boys with assistance form new coaches GUI and PABLO. We also were lucky enough to have a party/BBQ at the country house of MARCOS, the ex head of Brazilian Soccer Federation( CBF). Marcos has enjoyed his one year retirement, and is now heading to SAU PAULO to takeover as CEO of Palmeiras soccer club. He is excited about our future tours visiting PALMEIRAS as well and have our teams train with them and play their youth side( in soccer). GUI , who all who have attended Centre of Excellence know, was only with us for a few days as he had to leave for KOREA as head of the Brazilian delegation to the World Cup. GUI has done well since I first met him eight years ago,and is now number 2 administrator in Brazilian Soccer. Mauricio and Raquel’s daughters Joanna and Alice have unfortunately lost their aussie twang, but I’m sure when they come on exchange again in ten years, it will come back.
BRAZIL TOUR NOVEMBER AND MAY NEXT YEAR The itinery for the tour in November has nearly been finalized but Mauricio and I have agreed to the concept of nine days in Belo Horizonte training and playing, three days touring local cities playing local teams and three days/two nights in RIO. If its not being used we’ll also stay one night at the GRAND CAMARY, Brazil Soccer’s training centre at Tetrapolis. The May tour in 2003 will be similar to this year’s except we will play in a tournament in Belo Horizonte not USA for three days and have three days in Rio with the rest in Belo Horizonte. All tours will also travel via Chile or Argentina across the southern pacific as it is quicker and you don’t have the security problems that exist in the USA. Full itineries should be ready b y the 30th June.
SINGAPORE 5’S Although not confirmed, Brazil is under the opinion the Singapore 5’s is in August, not November. More news later.
PACIFIC CUP IDEA On behalf of Soccer Australia I spoke to United States Futsal about the possibility of looking at an annual PACIFIC CUP. Aiming mainly at the states on the Pacific rim, an annual competition could be held in Honolulu or Los Angeles inviting Canada, Australia, Japan, USA, Mexico, Peru and Chile states. Alex Para from USFF liked the idea and hopefully we might be able to carry it further.
MINAS TENIS CLUBE I met with the CEO of MINAS TENIS CLUBE FUTSAL TEAM while in Brazil. Minas are the current national champions and are keen to come to Australia to play and have a holiday. They are interested in January when our nationals are on and obviously want to start with a holiday at the Gold Coast. It will be discussed at the next NFC meeting and hopefully will happen. More news later.
